ABOUT

Who We Are

VISION

Abide Church exists to help people live, love, and look like Jesus.

1 John 2:6 says, “If we say we abide in Jesus, we ought to walk just as He walked.” Many people are visiting Jesus but they are not truly abiding in Him. At Abide Church we want to disciple people to have an intimate, personal, and fruitful relationship with Jesus.

LEAD PASTOR

Dan DeBell

As the Lead Pastor of Abide Church, Pastor Dan provides teaching, leadership, and guidance for the church as a whole. Pastor Dan and his wife Leslie both grew up in Tulsa, OK. They have been connected and planted in local churches their entire lives. They met in 2008 on a blind date and the rest is, as they say, history. They were married in 2010 and now have one son named Gavin.

BELIEFS

Statement of Faith

God The Father

God is the creator of the universe. He has eternally existed as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three are coequal and are one God. God is a Heavenly Father to all who have accepted His free gift of Salvation. He is a good Father who is faithful to His people and His promises.

  • Psalm 90:2

  • Matthew 28:19

  • Mark 1:9-11

  • 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus The Son

Jesus is a coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life on this earth as 100% God and 100% man. Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. However, He did not stay dead! After three days He arose from the grave demonstrating His power over sin and death. By doing so, He created a way for people to have a personal relationship with God. He then ascended to heaven and will return to earth someday to reign as King.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He lives in each Christian from the moment of salvation. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ. We believe in the post-salvation experience of Spirit Baptism. We believe the church should operate in the fullness of the Spirit as the first century church did in the book of Acts.

The Holy Bible

The Holy Bible, and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. The Bible was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. Because it is inspired by God Himself, it is without error.

Man

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of His creation. Man was created to have fellowship with God but became separated from that fellowship through sinful disobedience. Although every person has a tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience called “sin.” Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our lives.

  • Isaiah 53:6, 59: 1-2

  • Romans 3:23

  • Psalm 139:13-16

  • Colossians 2:13-15

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a free gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human efforts.

  • Galatians 2:16, 3:8

  • Titus 3:5

  • Romans 10:9-10

  • Acts 16:31

  • Hebrews 9:22

Eternity

People were created to exist forever. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. Heaven is an eternal dwelling place for all believers who have accepted salvation through Jesus Christ. Hell is an eternal dwelling place for all unbelievers who have rejected the free gift of salvation and have chosen to live eternally separated from God.

The Church

The Church is not a building, it is a local community of believers unified through faith in Christ. The Church is the Body of Christ working together with the common goal of bringing the Gospel to the world. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and obeying all of His commandments.

  • Acts 2:41-47, 5:11-14

  • Colossians 1:18, 3:15

  • 1 Corinthians 12

Water Baptism

Once a person has accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, baptism is the first step in publicly declaring their new life in Christ. Baptism is a symbolic picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. The Word of God commands all new believers to be baptized in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

  • Matthew 28:18-20

  • Mark 16:16

  • Acts 2:41, 8:12

  • Romans 6:4

  • Colossians 2:12

Marriage

God established monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. According to scripture, any form of homosexuality, bisexuality, pedophilia, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and/or pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex between a man and a woman in marriage. God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged other than in the context of marriage between a man and a woman. Therefore, Abide Church will not recognize or conduct any marriage between persons of the same gender.
